jpnn.comJAKARTA – The Central Presidium of the Indonesian Catholic Scholars Association (ISKA) conveyed a statement of position and concerns regarding the dynamics leading up to the 2024 regional head elections (Pilkada).

The ISKA Central Presidium in its statement of position on August 26, 2024 was signed by Secretary General Dr. Ch. Arie Sulistiono and the Presidium for Politics and Government Danial Tonapa.

ISKA is observing the development of political dynamics that occurred after the issuance of Constitutional Court Decision Number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 which provides new guidelines regarding the 2024 regional head elections (Pilkada).

The full attitude of concern and the attitude of intellectuals from the Indonesian Catholic Scholars Association (ISKA) are as follows:

1. There has been a crisis of democracy and the constitution due to political actions that ignore the roles and responsibilities of high state institutions and ignore decisions that fall within their authority.

In this situation, we emphasize the importance of obeying and upholding the provisions of the constitution of the nation and state.

2. ISKA strongly opposes any attempts to exploit and ride on high state institutions in issuing policies and legal decisions that regulate the governance of national and state life for momentary interests that ignore public aspirations.

For that, consistency is needed from every state institution and office so that every decision taken is not perceived as an effort to save friends or certain parties
