Riyadh: OIC to take strict action against Islamophobia. The demand was put forward by the OIC in an emergency meeting held in Jeddah on Tuesday. Islamophobia and hate crimes have reached alarming levels. The emergency meeting of the OIC also observed that intolerance and religious rivalry had reached a peak.
The meeting pointed out that hate attacks are viewed as an act against Islam. OIC Secretary General Hissin Brahim Taha stated that all such activities are considered crimes against Islamic believers. The OIC demanded that the governments of the respective countries take strict punitive measures against those who continue to engage in such Islamophobic activities.
Some governments fail to crack down on Islamophobia. The OIC meeting points out that the governments of some countries are failing to punish those who instigate such Islamophobic activities. The OIC also opined that such Islamophobic activities are being carried out in the name of freedom of expression.
The OIC stated that Saudi Arabia has always stood for spreading Islamic values based on dialogue and co-existence. The OIC meeting called on countries that uphold Islamic values based on peace and co-existence to strongly oppose such blasphemous acts.
