Ismael Colomer, the rural actor who is making his way in the world of music

by time news

Ismael Colomer is an actor and musician from Camprodon who enjoys a long career both on stage and behind the small and big screen. When he was only twenty years old he created a music group with his friends from the village. They called themselves Entregirats and things didn’t go too badly for them: they managed to make their first album titled Jocs de Cucanya with the PICAP label (2003), from which twelve tracks came out such as Vaig i vinc, De flor en flower, De ressaca or L’ska d’en Buscàs.

As Colomer comments, the artistic vein comes to him “as a child”. “At school we always did improvisations and I always had the desire to be very creative, to do radio programs and other projects”. For this reason, when he was older he decided to study theater in Barcelona, ”and one thing led to another”, he points out from the other end of the phone.

A musical career

Later, however, Colomer decided to embark on a career as a solo musician, releasing the album A Plena Nit (PICAP, 2006), in which he had collaborations with prominent musicians such as Adrià Puntí from Salten or Manu Guix . This was the beginning of a long musical career.

Now, almost twenty years later (and having participated in television formats such as the successful political satire space Polonia or tabletop series Com si fisa yesterday on TV3 or Amar es para siempre from Antena 3), Colomer has released the first single of the his next studio work, which will be titled Universal.

It is the Eclipse theme, a song “dedicated to all those affected by the war in Ukraine, especially Ukrainians”, as the artist points out. A song that claims love, freedom and hope as a combat weapon against conflicts. But it wasn’t enough for Colomer to just dedicate a song to them, so he decided that part of the profits would go to the NGO Ayuda en Acción, “a very serious organization with many years of experience”, he points out.

On the other hand, Colomer emphasizes that each Universal song “will have its own thing”. For example, the album will include a song in solidarity with the Nepalese people (from which part of the proceeds will go to the NGO Amics del Nepal), as well as a song to collaborate with the Hospital of Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona.

But solidarity, for the artist, comes from afar: he participated in TV3’s La Marató in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions; and also in 2009, with the FACMA Foundation (Foundation for Aid Against Animal Abuse), he presented the song A Song of Freedom. Thus, freedom is a recurring theme in his works. Regarding the current album, the singer declares that “it’s a pop-rock style album that talks about hope, freedom, day to day, longings… it will be more optimistic than what I’ve done so far”, declares the musician at the same time as adding that “although it is made for solidarity causes, it is made with a lot of light”. As for Colomer’s current aspirations, he says that “I long to be good with myself and with those around me”.

A work in three languages

Tanmateix, l’àlbum combinarà tres llengües diferents: el català, el castellà i l’anglès, «perquè hem intentat ser pragmàtics: la cançó està fet amb la llengua que quedi millor», assenyala l’intèrpret, músic i cantant, alhora que he also points out that the singles will come out in spades due to health problems that unfortunately prevent him from “putting up 12-song concerts”.
