The arrival of more humanitarian staff will expand the ICRC’s capacity to continue supporting hospitals and perform life-saving surgeries, assist people desperate for access to clean water, and help reunite freed hostages with their families.

This crucial humanitarian assistance brings some relief, but it is not enough. Our surgical equipment and medical supplies will help alleviate the extreme pressure that Gaza’s medical and nursing staff are working under, but safe and sustained humanitarian access is urgently needed. This humanitarian catastrophe worsens hour by hour

Fabrizio Carboni, ICRC regional director for the Middle East and Near East

The new medical supplies – delivered in both the north and south of Gaza – include items for war surgery, large packages of supplies that are used to care for people with wounds suffered in the context of the armed conflict. Each package is enough to treat between 1,000 and 5,000 people, depending on the severity of the injuries.

The water purification supplies contain chlorine tablets that can treat 50,000 liters of water to help alleviate the problems Gazans now encounter in accessing drinking water.

The ICRC calls on all parties to the conflict and influential States to allow rapid and unhindered humanitarian access, in accordance with international humanitarian law. Throughout Gaza, sustained humanitarian access and ongoing humanitarian assistance are desperately needed.
