Israel begins withdrawing troops from northern Gaza

by

Thousands of Israeli troops are being withdrawn from the Gaza Strip, in the first significant reduction in troops since the start of the war.

The withdrawal of brigades signals a slowdown in fighting in some areas of Gaza, particularly in the northern half, where the Israeli army believes it is close to taking operational control.

Israel has been under pressure from its main ally, the United States, which has been pushing for lower-intensity fighting.

The Israeli army carried out more ground and air strikes in several parts of Gaza, in which it says it killed a commander of Hamas’s Nukhba force, the elite force that planned and led the attacks on Israel on October 7.

According to the latest balance, the number of Palestinians killed in Gaza is around 22 thousand.

The population in the Gaza Strip continues to face shortages of food, drinking water, medicine and fuel due to Israel’s strict siege, which since the outbreak of the conflict has only allowed access to humanitarian aid slowly and belatedly.
