Israeli warplanes raided Beirut’s southern suburbs on Tuesday. Media reported that the Israeli airstrike targeted a Hezbollah leader, but his fate is still unclear.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that “6 people were killed and 15 wounded in the initial toll of the Israeli attack.”

The Israeli army said in press statements, “We are now attacking targets in Beirut,” and the Israeli army radio added, quoting a military source, “There was an assassination attempt on a senior leader in Beirut, and the results are not yet clear.”

Two security sources told Reuters that the Israeli air strike on Beirut targeted a Hezbollah leader, and his fate is not yet clear.

According to initial information, the Israeli raid targeted a building opposite the Al-Khansa Husseiniya in Ghobeiry in the southern suburb.

A source who preferred to remain anonymous told Agence France-Presse that the Israeli raid targeted two floors of a building in the Ghobeiry area in the southern suburbs, in a strike confirmed by the Israeli army.

Israeli media reported that “the targeted person is the head of Hezbollah’s missile system, while information about the target’s name was conflicting.”

Army Radio said that the target is called “Ibrahim Muhammad Qubaisi,” while Channel 14 said that his name is “Abu Ali Hariki,” and Ynet said that his name is “Abu Jawad Hariri.”

For his part, the coordinator of the National Disaster and Crisis Coordination Committee, Lebanese Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin, announced today, Tuesday, that the number of displaced persons from the areas targeted by the Israeli raids last night reached 16,500 displaced persons.

Minister Yassin said, after meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati today, that “the number of shelters in schools has reached 150 schools, while the number of displaced people is increasing, reaching 16,500 at night.”

Minister Yassin pointed out that the Prime Minister “instructed the Higher Relief Commission to continue providing the necessary relief for the displaced.”
