The Israeli Army claimed this Thursday to have killed dozens of fighters from the Palestinian group Hamas and destroyed secret tunnels during clashes on Wednesday night in the northern Gaza Strip in which troops were attacked with rockets and bombs.
In a statement, the Army said the soldiers had support from the Air Force and Navy who covered them with gunfire throughout “prolonged battles” in the north of the enclave.
“Militaries from the Golani Brigade and the Armed Forces responded to terrorist squads that fired anti-tank missiles, explosives and threw grenades at them,” the note stated.
Were “prolonged battles” in which artillery units and tanks also participatedbate.
“Likewise, instructions have been given for planes to attack from the air and for a ship to attack from the sea,” the statement added.
Israel launched a wave of bombings in Gaza after Hamas militants infiltrated its territory from there on October 7 and killed more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, in addition to kidnapping more than 240 people.
The attacks against the Strip, meanwhile, left almost 8,800 Palestinians dead, including more than 3,600 minors, according to the authorities of the enclave.
Since last weekend, Israeli troops have been carrying out a ground operation in Gaza.
The Army said Wednesday that 15 soldiers have been killed since Tuesday in fighting with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
