New Israeli diplomatic clash with the European Parliament. The authorities of that country have deported the BNG MEP Ana Miranda, who was part of the Delegation for Relations with Palestine. Despite being included in an official trip of the European Parliament and that Israel initially authorized her presence, once she was detained at the Tel Aviv airport and, after several hours of waiting, she was denied entry.

The reason given by the Israeli authorities, who have ignored the diplomatic efforts of the presidency of the European Parliament and the Spanish embassy, is Miranda’s participation in the International Flotilla heading to Gaza in 2015, according to the Galician nationalist formation. “That they finally don’t let me in is the price to pay for defending human rights and denouncing the occupation and apartheid that Israel practices with the Palestinian people,” says Miranda.

“Israel abuses with total impunity, not respecting the members of the European Parliament or an official delegation from the European Parliament. The BNG will denounce this diplomatic violation and lack of respect for parliamentary immunity both in the European Parliament and in Congress,” the party added in a statement.

The delegation will hold meetings with human rights organizations, journalists and political parties, in addition to meeting with the Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, among other activities.

Israel vetoed IU MEP Manu Pineda on that same trip, despite being the president of the delegation. In his case, it is the second time he has been denied entry into the country. He also did it in 2022. On this occasion, Pineda asked the rest of the mission, made up of eight other MEPs, to visit the occupied territories, since a year ago they canceled the trip after Tel Aviv’s refusal.

Pineda is one of the parliamentarians of La Izquierda that appears in the list prepared by the security department of the European Parliament for the celebration of Holocaust Day in Brussels. The document mixes pro-Palestinian deputies with neo-Nazis in a list to “reinforce surveillance” during that event attended by Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

“Parliament must show due diligence by taking all reasonable measures to implement security measures aimed at preventing any damage to the facilities and their material assets, including during important ceremonies or events such as the Holocaust commemoration that took place on January 26, 2023”, justifies in this case the Eurochamber.
