The silence of the Berlin club scene regarding the terrorist attack in Israel was striking. The full text reads: “Since the Islamist terrorist group Hamas attacked the Israeli population from the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning with unimaginable cruelty and – as of now – murdered over 1,200 people, the vast majority of them Jews, and deported over 150 to Gaza as hostages has, we hold our breath. As the first anti-Semitic pogrom in their own country, Jews describe in shock, agony and despair what no one thought possible except those who have been pursuing exactly this goal for decades: to murder as many Jews as possible . The label BPitch Control, founded by Berlin DJ Ellen Allien, also commented in English via Instagram on Thursday. In translation, it reads on a black background: “We condemn the cruel attacks on the Supernova Sukkot event this weekend. There is no higher reason that excuses the murder, torture, kidnapping and rape of innocent people. We stand with everyone who opposes terror.”
The two posts make it clear: they come late and there are only two, even if there is no claim to completeness here. The Berlin club scene is still far from a clear positioning, even if the Berlin Club Commission also expressed its horror at the terrorist attack on the festival via Instagram on Thursday.
