The images are chilling. The Israeli army released videos purported to come from surveillance cameras at Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza and dating from October 7, showing hostages being brought into the facility.

“These findings prove that the Hamas terrorist organization used the Al-Shifa hospital complex on the day of the massacre as a terrorist infrastructure,” Israeli military and intelligence said in a statement.

In one of the videos, a man is seen being carried out on a stretcher surrounded by several men, at least four of whom are armed. In another, an individual appears to struggle as he is pushed down a hallway. According to the army, they are a Nepalese citizen and a Thai citizen.

The hostages in question “not yet located”

“Here you can see Hamas taking a hostage inside,” army spokesman Daniel Hagari commented during a press briefing. “We have not yet located these two hostages,” he added. “We don’t know where they are.”

These images, the authenticity of which we were not immediately able to verify, appear to be dated October 7, 2023, the day the Palestinian Islamist movement carried out its attack on Israel, the most violent in the country’s history since 1948, killing around 1,200 people, the majority civilians according to Israeli authorities, and taking some 240 hostages.

Ezzat al-Rishq, senior Hamas political official cited in a movement statement, responded to Daniel Hagari in the evening. “We have said for a long time that the resistance had brought several of the occupier’s prisoners to hospitals so that they could receive care and operations, in particular because some were injured in aerial bombardments” by the Israelis, he said. he says.

“We showed pictures of all this and the army spokesperson acts like he discovered something incredible,” he continued.

Furthermore, Daniel Hagari affirmed that the autopsy report of soldier Noa Marciano, a hostage discovered dead near al-Shifa, according to the Israeli army, proved that she had been “murdered on the spot by a terrorist from Hamas.” The Islamist movement, for its part, claims that she was killed in an Israeli bombing.

“During the army bombings, her captor was killed and Noa injured, but not critically, that’s what the autopsy report says,” Daniel Hagari responded.

A 55 m tunnel under the hospital

On Sunday, the IDF made more than one revelation about the hospital, which it has been searching since Wednesday for a Palestinian Hamas military base. At the end of the afternoon, the Israeli army claimed to have discovered a 55 m long tunnel used according to it “for terrorism”. Once again, images of this tunnel were broadcast by the army on X.

This tunnel is ten meters deep, the army said, while dozens of patients are still in this hospital complex, the largest in the Gaza Strip, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). .

“Grenade launchers, explosives and Kalashnikov rifles” found on site

“A steep staircase leads to the entrance to the tunnel” equipped with several means of defense including an armored door, explained the army in a press release. “This type of gate is used by Hamas terrorists to prevent Israeli forces from entering command centers.”

The tunnel was discovered in an area of the hospital under a hangar containing weapons, including “grenade launchers, explosives and Kalashnikov rifles”, she added, adding that soldiers continued to advance into the underground.

Israeli forces have besieged the hospital since Wednesday, leading to the evacuation of a large number of its patients. The army claims that the Islamist Hamas movement has a hideout there, which the movement denies.

On Saturday, hundreds of people taking refuge in the hospital were able to be evacuated, even though they found themselves trapped in the middle of the fighting between the IDF and Hamas. These civilians headed towards the Salaheddine road, which leads to the south of Gaza.
