“Around 15 Hezbollah terrorists were killed in the attack,” the army said, describing the strike on a municipal building in Bint Jbeil, near the border with Israel.
Although the Lebanese news agency NNA reported an Israeli attack on the municipal building, there was no initial confirmation of casualties from the Lebanese side.
“The Hezbollah terrorist organization systematically violates international law while brutally using government and civilian buildings as well as civilians as human shields for terrorist activities,” the Israeli military said.
The Israeli military previously reported that 25 shells were fired from Lebanon. Air raid sirens sounded in northern Israel.
Since September 23, the Israeli army has been intensively bombarding the south of Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut in response to Hezbollah’s attacks on Israeli territory.
Israel’s stated goal is to drive Hezbollah fighters from the border areas so that the roughly 60,000 residents evacuated from northern Israel due to Hezbollah shelling can return home.
