Tehran: Tension is being seen in Arab countries after the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyya in Iran’s capital Tehran and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Lebanon. The Sun, in a report quoting regional experts, has said that West Asia is currently going through the most turbulent phase after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 last year. In the coming time, conflict may increase in the region as both Iran and Hezbollah have talked about taking revenge from Israel. At the same time, America has also announced help to Israel.
Professor Asher Kaufman of the KROC Institute for International Peace Studies said in a conversation with The Sun, “There could be a two-pronged attack on Israel from Iran and Hezbollah. I would say that the region is in danger, rather it can also be said that on a global level, large parts of the world are in danger. This is because I am sure that the Iranian leadership and Hezbollah are now considering how to respond to Israel together. This could be a response that will include Hezbollah and Iran.”
Iran has vowed revenge
There is anger in Iran after the attack on the Hamas leader in Tehran and the Iranian government has vowed to take revenge. Iran can use Hezbollah for this. Hezbollah is believed to have the full support of Tehran. Kaufman believes that this is the most dangerous situation in West Asia since the war broke out in Gaza in October last year. Kaufman believes that after several days of continuous attacks and the killing of two major enemies of Israel, the possibility of a widespread war breaking out in the region is increasing.
Professor Kaufman believes that Hezbollah could target Israeli urban centers in Tel Aviv or Haifa. He also said that a full-blown war would be extremely devastating for the region. He also acknowledged that no major stakeholder in the region wants a full-blown war, but at the moment it is very difficult to predict how things will turn out.
‘This area has become a powder keg’
Speaking to The Sun, Sir Ivor Roberts, senior adviser to UANI and Counter Extremism Project (CEP), said that the whole region has become a powder keg.
