CNN, the New York Times, and NBC reported on the 31st (local time) that the Israeli military has discovered a significant number of bodies during combat in the Gaza Strip in Palestine and is working to identify them.

According to the media, the Israeli military issued a statement that day saying that they had recovered several bodies during the operation in the Gaza Strip and were in the process of identifying them, and that they did not rule out the possibility of hostages, but asked people to refrain from making unnecessary speculation.

After the statement, the Israeli Hostage and Missing Persons Families Forum called on X to immediately conclude negotiations for the release of the hostages, saying this was evidence that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had given up the hostages.

The Israeli military has not confirmed whether the bodies are hostages kidnapped by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, but explained that this will be revealed after they are transferred to Israel on the 1st for detailed identification.

The Israeli military added that it was “still operating in the Gaza Strip and will continue to work to recover and identify the bodies for several hours.”

U.S. President Joe Biden told reporters in Delaware on Monday that he was aware Israel had recovered several bodies, but did not know the exact number, and would not comment on whether they were hostage remains.

Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostage.

A temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas subsequently resulted in the release of more than 100 hostages, and eight were rescued by Israeli forces.

The Israeli Hostage and Missing Persons Families Forum recently announced that there are 107 hostages remaining in the Gaza Strip, including survivors and dead.
