Title: Israel Rejects Hamas Claim of Hostage Release on Humanitarian Grounds

Date: October 21, 2023

Jerusalem – On Saturday, Israel dismissed a statement from Hamas as “propaganda” after the militant group claimed it had intended to release two more hostages on humanitarian grounds, but Israel declined to receive them.

Abu Ubaida, the spokesman for Hamas’ armed wing, stated that the group had informed Qatar of its intention to release the two additional hostages on Friday. This announcement came alongside the liberation of Americans Judith Tai Ranaan and her daughter Natalie.

In a subsequent statement, Abu Ubaida confirmed that Hamas was prepared to free the two individuals on Sunday, using the same procedures employed in the release of Judith and Natalie.

During a deadly assault on southern Israel on October 7, the Palestinian group captured approximately 210 people. Qatar, which mediated Friday’s release, has yet to comment on Hamas’ subsequent claim.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office responded to the allegations with a brief statement, stating that they would not engage with Hamas’ false propaganda. The statement further emphasized Israel’s commitment to taking all necessary actions to secure the return of all kidnapped and missing individuals.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has led to significant tensions in the region, with both sides engaging in military operations and retaliatory measures. As the situation remains unresolved, international efforts to mediate and achieve a lasting ceasefire continue.
