During the nine-month military operation in the Gaza Strip, Israeli troops have destroyed half of the leadership of the military wing of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was stated by the army press service.

“As a result of precise operational and intelligence actions, half of the leadership of the military wing of Hamas has been destroyed by this stage of the war as a result of a series of strikes and assassinations. The IDF continues its vital mission of pursuing the top leaders of the Hamas terrorist organization as part of efforts to destroy the organization’s capabilities,” the statement said.

It lists the names and photographs of 14 leaders of Hamas’ military wing. The portraits of seven of them are accompanied by the note “liquidated.” However, the head of the movement’s military organization, Mohammed al-Deif, is listed as alive.

On July 13, the Israeli army reported a targeted strike on a Gaza Strip neighborhood where, according to the military, two leaders of Hamas’s military wing were hiding. There were reports that the main target of the strike was al-Deif, the second-highest ranking Hamas city. That same evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a special press conference, at which he stated that the Israeli side had not yet confirmed the elimination of the Hamas military leader. At the same time, the prime minister called the strike a turning point in the military campaign in the Gaza Strip, confirming Israel’s serious intentions to eliminate the entire Hamas leadership.

On July 14, the army press service announced that the operation had killed Hamas’s military wing chief in Khan Yunis, Rafia Salama. On the evening of July 15, Netanyahu told Channel 14 that there was “interesting information” about the fate of al-Deif, but he chose to refrain from further comment on the matter until he received more precise information.
