On Friday, anti-Israeli elements launched a cyber attack that brought down the websites of the Israeli post office and some of the largest banks in the country. This incident occurred during the celebration of “Iranian Jerusalem Day,” which many feared would result in cyber attacks aimed at harming the country and its various institutions. The banks affected included Bank Masad and the Soldier’s Treasury Bank. This is part of an annual event called #OPJerusalem, which began at the start of April. The hacker group “Anonymous Sudan” has been particularly active in recent attacks on Israel and published a list of targets, including the aforementioned banks and the Israel Post website. The national cyber system confirmed the attack and asserted that the banks’ websites remained available and live thanks to their advanced security measures. Several other institutions in Israel have also experienced cyber attacks this month, including the largest universities, hospitals, and the Cyber Checkpoint company. Additionally, a cyber attack targeted the Israel Post, and an attempt was made to damage the irrigation system in the Galilee.

These cyber incidents are part of an activity known as #OPJerusalem, which takes place every year at the beginning of April. In fact, as of yesterday we are seeing attacks against Israeli websites. Most attacks focus on denial of service (DDOS) and defacement, mainly of lesser-known websites. The hacker group “Anonymous Sudan”, which has been taking an active part in attacks on Israel recently, has published a list of targets for attack, including some of the largest banks in Israel and the Israel Post website.

The national cyber system clarified after the first attack that “attempts to carry out a load attack on the websites of banks in Israel were detected and stopped. Thanks to the banks’ strong defenses, except for occasional interruptions, the websites continue to be available and live. The attempts are limited to the marketing websites and are not related to the banks’ internal systems.”
