Israel has resumed large-scale air strikes on southern Lebanon amid growing fears that clashes between Israel and Hezbollah could escalate into full-scale war.

According to CNN, the Times of Israel, and others on the 23rd (local time), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that “they are currently conducting extensive airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.”

Lebanese state news agency reported that several areas in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley were under Israeli airstrikes.

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said the strikes came after reports that Hezbollah was preparing to fire rockets at Israel.

He also warned that “air strikes will continue to eliminate the threat.”

It warned Lebanese civilians along the border that “we will be striking Lebanese terrorist targets in the near future” and that “anyone in the vicinity of buildings or inside homes where Hezbollah is hiding weapons should immediately distance themselves from them.”

Earlier the previous morning, Hezbollah launched over 100 rocket attacks centered around Haifa in northern Israel. Israel responded to the attacks by deploying several fighter jets and interceptor missiles.

The Islamic Rebellion in Iraq (IRI) also said overnight that it had “attacked a (Israeli) Golan observation post in the occupied Palestinian territory with a drone.”

The IDF had no comment on the matter, saying, “The incident is over.”
