BREAKING NEWS: Senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Killed in Israeli Air Strike

Sayyed Razi Mousavi, a top commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responsible for coordinating the military alliance between Syria and Iran, was killed in an Israeli air strike outside the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Reports indicate that Mousavi was killed on Monday in an attack by the Israeli military in the Zeinabiyah district, south of Damascus. Iran’s official IRNA news agency confirmed the death, describing Mousavi as one of the most experienced IRGC advisers in Syria. He had also been known to accompany Qassem Soleimani, the former head of the IRGC’s elite Quds Force who was killed in a US drone attack in Iraq in 2020.

Iran’s state television interrupted its regular news broadcast to announce Mousavi’s death, indicating the significant impact his role played in the military operations in Syria. The IRGC has been actively involved in supporting President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in the ongoing conflict in Syria, leading to an increased presence of Iranian forces in the country.

Israel, which has repeatedly carried out strikes against what it has described as Iran-linked targets in Syria, has not provided immediate comment on the air strike that resulted in Mousavi’s death. Earlier this month, Iran accused Israel of launching strikes that killed two other IRGC members serving as military advisers in Syria.

The Iranian-Israeli conflict in Syria continues to escalate, with the latest incident underscoring the ongoing tensions between the two countries and their involvement in the complex and volatile situation in the region.
