OR Oren Rosenblat, the newly appointed Israeli ambassador to Portugal, expressed optimism regarding a potential ceasefire agreement with Gaza, stating, “Tomorrow we will have this agreement” and anticipating the return of “the 33 hostages” on Sunday.
In an interview with SIC Notícias, Rosenblat emphasized the necessity for Israel to “achieve these war objectives,” asserting that “we have no alternatives.” He reiterated the gravity of the situation, warning that incidents similar to the October 7 attacks coudl recur, citing the words of terrorists themselves.
Rosenblat attributed the suffering of hostages and Israelis to Hamas, stating, “Hamas caused this terrible suffering and pain to the hostages and also to all Israelis”.
When asked about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, he dismissed reports of food shortages as “Hamas propaganda.” He claimed, “there is no hunger in Gaza,” and noted that “there are fat people there too,” suggesting that images depicting hunger are manipulated by Palestinians.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also weighed in, indicating that the ceasefire agreement might be jeopardized. He stated on social media, “We will not proceed with the agreement until we recieve the list of hostages who will be released as agreed. Israel will not tolerate violations of the agreement. The only obligation lies with Hamas.”
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the list of hostages to be released is expected to be finalized by Sunday, with a deadline set for 4:30 PM local time (2:30 PM Lisbon).
