Two Israeli soldiers were killed and seven others were injured when an air force helicopter crashed in the southern Gaza Strip, in what Israel described as a normal accident, while calling for an investigation into the causes of the crash.

“According to an initial investigation conducted by the Israeli Air Force, a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter from the 123rd Squadron was heading to Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, carrying a medical team to evacuate a soldier who had been seriously wounded during fighting in the area. During the final landing phase inside an Israeli army camp, the helicopter crashed into the ground instead of landing properly.”

Air Force Commander Tomer Bar ordered “an investigation to determine why the helicopter crashed into the ground at the camp, instead of landing properly.”

Black Hawk helicopters, known in the Israeli Air Force as “Yanshov” or “Owl” in Hebrew, are used for routine transport missions, landing and carrying troops during military operations. During the Gaza War, the Israeli army relied on helicopters for medical evacuation from within the Strip.
