Israeli Citizen Daniel Haim Released from Detention in Sinai

Eilat, Israel – After a month-long ordeal, Daniel Haim, a 24-year-old Israeli citizen, has finally been released from detention in Sinai. Haim, who was arrested at the border crossing in Sinai last month, was able to pass through the Taba border crossing and return to Eilat.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed their gratitude to the Egyptian authorities for their cooperation in securing Haim’s release. Minister Eli Cohen specifically thanked the authorities in Egypt and Ronan Levy, the director general of the ministry, for their coordination in the efforts to bring Haim back home.

Haim’s arrest came after bullets were discovered in his possession at the border crossing. These bullets were inadvertently left in his drawer due to his work as a security guard at a security company. As a result, he was sent to court in Nueva, where his detention was extended.

However, Haim’s lawyer, Boaz Koenig, argued that his client had no malicious intent and that the bullets were simply forgotten in the drawer. Koenig stated, “This is a young man who crossed the border with some other friends to Sinai for a few days of vacation. Daniel works as a security guard and the bullets were forgotten in the drawer in good faith and without any malicious intent.”

The release of Haim brings an end to a distressing period for him and his family. Now reunited with his loved ones in Eilat, Haim can finally put this unfortunate incident behind him.

Minister Eli Cohen expressed his relief and appreciation for the successful resolution of the situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that this incident serves as a reminder for all Israeli citizens to be aware of the necessary precautions when traveling abroad.
