Israeli Embassy Staff Member Assaulted in Beijing, China

BEIJING, Oct 13 (Reuters) – A staffer at the Israeli embassy in Beijing was assaulted on Friday, Israel’s foreign ministry said in a statement. The individual is currently in stable condition in the hospital.

According to the statement, the attack did not occur within the embassy compound itself. The Israeli embassy is located just one embassy away from the United States embassy in an area with several other embassies and a heavy police presence.

An investigation into the attack is underway, as confirmed by the statement provided by the Israeli foreign ministry.

Unverified videos circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, depict a blood-stained man lying on the pavement next to a car, claiming to be from the Israeli embassy.

In one of the videos, a police officer can be heard identifying himself as a member of the Xinyuanli police station, located in the northeastern part of Beijing, close to the embassy district and a popular market for foreigners purchasing fresh produce.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of diplomatic staff in Beijing. With tensions rising globally, it is crucial for authorities to ensure the protection of embassy personnel.
