Israeli Forces Launch Large Military Operation in Jenin, West Bank, Resulting in Casualties

Israeli forces conducted a major operation in Jenin in the northern West Bank on Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of at least three people and the injury of 25 others, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement stating that the operation targeted “terrorist infrastructure” in the area.

Residents in Jenin reported hearing explosions and heavy gunfire during the operation, and videos from the scene showed wounded Palestinians being evacuated to a local hospital. Of the injured, seven are in critical condition, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The transfer of the injured has been challenging due to the severity of their injuries.

Footage shared with journalists indicated that the military operation was ongoing in parts of the Jenin refugee camp. Israeli military vehicles were seen on the streets of Jenin. However, these videos have not been independently verified by CNN.

The IDF stated that their operation targeted a joint operational command center of the Jenin Camp and members of the Jenin Brigade, a Palestinian militant group associated with Islamic Jihad. The command center was also described as an observation and reconnaissance center, as well as a gathering place for armed terrorists.

During the operation, the IDF claimed to have seized explosive devices and acted in coordination with the Israel Securities Authority. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that the IDF was targeting “terror hotspots” in Jenin and warned that anyone who harms Israeli citizens will face severe consequences.

In response to the Israeli operation, the Jenin Brigade claimed to have severely damaged an Israeli military vehicle using improvised explosive devices. They vowed to continue clashing with Israeli forces in order to prevent their advance into the camp. Palestinian Islamic Jihad also stated that they will retaliate against their enemy using all possible options.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the Israeli military operation, deeming it “a new war crime” against the Palestinian people. He called for security and stability in the region, emphasizing that it can only be achieved if the Palestinian people feel it.

This operation comes less than two weeks after another Israeli military raid in Jenin that resulted in a massive firefight, leaving five Palestinians dead and dozens wounded. Eight Israeli troops were also injured in that incident.

In a separate incident, a 21-year-old Palestinian man was shot and killed by Israeli forces at the northern entrance of Al-Bireh near Ramallah in the West Bank. The IDF has not yet commented on this incident.

The situation in Jenin remains tense as Israeli forces continue their military operation and Palestinian militant groups threaten retaliation.
