The armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, the Al-Quds Brigades, said today that several Israeli hostages tried to commit suicide after the Palestinians began treating them the way Israel treats Palestinian prisoners. Reuters.

“Several enemy prisoners have attempted suicide as a result of the extreme powerlessness they feel due to their government’s neglect of their case,” al-Quds Brigades spokesman Abu Hamza wrote in a post on the Telegram app. “We will continue to treat Israeli hostages the same way Israel treats our prisoners,” he added.

The Palestinian militant group did not specify what measures it took against the Israeli hostages.

The efforts of the Arab mediators, supported by the USA, failed in the attempts to reach a truce in the Gaza Strip, BTA reported.

Hamas said any deal should aim to end the war and lead to the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, while Israel said it would only accept a temporary pause in fighting until Hamas, which rules in Gaza since 2007, not be completely eliminated.

A possible deal is expected to include the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza in exchange for the freedom of Palestinians held in Israeli jails.
