Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Hospitalized for Evaluation

On Saturday evening, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he will be spending the night in the hospital for observation, based on the doctors’ recommendation. Netanyahu’s office also stated that the weekly cabinet meeting, scheduled for Sunday, will be postponed until Monday.

Earlier, Israeli television aired a clip of Netanyahu in the hospital, where he was seen smiling and urging people to stay hydrated during the ongoing heat wave.

Netanyahu was taken to Sheba Medical Center, near Tel Aviv, on Saturday after experiencing a sudden illness. His office confirmed that he is in good condition and undergoing evaluation at the medical center.

In an interview with Israeli Channel 12, Netanyahu’s doctor revealed that “the prime minister’s condition is stable.” He also mentioned that Netanyahu is currently undergoing various tests to determine the cause of his illness.

Local media reports indicated that Netanyahu was fully conscious during his journey from his residence in the coastal city of Caesarea to the hospital. Channel 12 reported that he complained of chest pain prior to being hospitalized but denied any allegations of being drugged or transferring power to another official.

This is not the first time Netanyahu has faced health issues. Last year, he experienced a medical problem while concluding Yom Kippur prayers at a synagogue. He was subsequently hospitalized for observation.

Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, where Netanyahu was previously treated, issued a statement saying that he had arrived at the medical center after feeling unwell at the end of the Yom Kippur fast. The hospital confirmed that all examinations conducted on Netanyahu were normal and that he was in good condition. It was decided, after consultation, that he would stay overnight for observation.

Sources close to Netanyahu revealed to Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth that he fell ill while fasting during Yom Kippur. During this religious observance, Jews fast from sunset until around the same time the following day, lasting approximately 25 continuous hours.

Netanyahu’s hospitalization comes at a time of political uncertainty in Israel, as the country faces the possibility of its fifth election in just two years. The prime minister himself faces corruption charges and has been struggling to maintain a stable governing coalition.]
