Former Israeli Prisoner Reveals Torture and Mistreatment

Maisoon Musa al-Jabali, a former Palestinian prisoner, has exposed the severe torture and mistreatment she endured during her years in an Israeli prison. Released under the terms of an extradition agreement, al-Jabali spoke out about the inhumane conditions she faced.

According to al-Jabali, the torture intensified after an attack on October 7, and she served the longest prison sentence. She described being brutally beaten, kept in solitary confinement, and subjected to gas attacks. Furthermore, she revealed that the amount of food provided to prisoners was reduced, with only 10 meals allotted for 80 women prisoners.

Al-Jabali, 28, was initially arrested on June 29, 2015, on charges of assaulting a female soldier near Bethlehem. At the time of her arrest, she was a student of English literature at Al Quds University. Despite her sentence, al-Jabali expressed a desire to continue her education, but Israeli authorities did not allow her to join Al-Quds Open University to complete her studies.

Despite the challenges she faced, al-Jabali managed to graduate in social service while in prison. Upon her release and return to the West Bank, she expressed her determination to pursue higher education.

The mistreatment and torture of prisoners, particularly those involved in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, have long been a source of concern and condemnation by human rights organizations. Al-Jabali’s account adds to the growing evidence of the harsh conditions faced by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
