MADRID, 12 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Dozens of protesters have approached the residence of the speaker of the Israeli Parliament (the Knesset), Amir Ohana, to protest with whistles at the culmination of the new weekly march against the judicial reform plans of the Government of the country, which has raised the population for more than 30 consecutive weeks.

The protesters have ended up concentrated on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, where Ohana’s home is located, shouting “We are not afraid”, after more than 100,000 people marched through the streets of the city once again, waving Israeli flags and temporarily paralyzing some intersections, reports the ‘Times of Israel’.

The judicial reform that the Israeli government is preparing constitutes, according to its critics, an attack against the separation of powers by granting the government unusual powers over the judiciary.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already indicated his willingness to suspend his efforts to amend several judicial laws, but has assured that he still intends to modify the judicial selection committee.

The country is preparing for a surge in tension in September, when the country’s Supreme Court rules, in an extremely unusual proceeding, against a recently approved judicial amendment by the majority enjoyed by the government coalition, populated by ultranationalists, and that now prevents the courts from acting against Executive decisions that the courts understand as “contrary to common sense”
