Operation Conducted to Locate and Destroy Drug Hotbeds in the Negev

The soldiers of the internal security division of the Mageb, along with the inspectors of the green patrol and reserve personnel of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), have successfully carried out an operation to locate and destroy drug hotbeds in the Negev. The perpetrators had set up greenhouses in remote areas, taking advantage of the terrain and using camouflage nets.

“This is an economic business that generates hundreds of millions of shekels a year, and every operation of this type seriously hurts the pockets of the criminals,” says Sen, the commander of the Rotem branch of the BTP brigade. “The largest force in the field is forcing the criminals to find other solutions, such as setting up greenhouses in fire areas, which we also attack and destroy. We will continue to beat the criminals so that the fire areas in the Negev will not be no man’s land.”

Over the course of the two-day operation, a total of 35 greenhouses were located throughout the Negev fire areas. More than 22,610 cannabis plants, with a potential market value of approximately a quarter of a billion shekels, were destroyed by the forces. The plants were burned in the field to ensure their complete destruction.

The operation comes as part of ongoing efforts to combat the illegal drug trade in the region. The economic impact of these operations is significant, as they disrupt and dismantle the drug networks that generate substantial revenue for criminals. By destroying the drug hotbeds, the authorities are not only preventing the sale and distribution of illegal drugs but also dealing a blow to the financial capabilities of the criminal organizations involved.

While these operations are undoubtedly successful in their mission, the battle against drug trafficking continues. The determination of the soldiers and inspectors involved in this operation emphasizes the unwavering commitment of the Israeli authorities to maintain the safety, security, and integrity of the Negev region.

The police spokeswoman has released a photo capturing the moment of the operation. It serves as a reminder of the tireless efforts of those involved and the constant struggle to combat illegal activities in the region.

Efforts to combat drug production and trafficking remain a top priority for law enforcement agencies worldwide. The success of such operations provides hope that with continued determination, these criminal organizations can be dismantled, ensuring a safer and drug-free future for all.
