Gaza City: 24 Israeli soldiers were killed in clashes with Hamas in Gaza on Monday. This is the first time that so many soldiers have been killed in a single day since the ground war began in October. Hours after the incident, Israel announced that it had surrounded the town of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza and stepped up its offensive.

Army spokesman Daniel Hagari said 24 people were killed when grenades landed near soldiers’ tanks and on buildings they were trying to destroy. 21 of the dead are reservists. This brings the number of Israeli soldiers killed in Gaza to 217 since the war began on October 7.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military had launched an investigation into the incident. He said he would continue the offensive until he achieved complete victory over Hamas and the return of the hostages in Gaza.

The situation in Gaza worsened when Brett McGurk, the White House’s West Asia coordinator, visited Egypt and Qatar to discuss the release of hostages. Israel had proposed a two-month temporary ceasefire for the release of hostages.

Many Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in Khan Yunis in retaliation for the deaths of soldiers. The Red Crescent headquarters were also attacked. Refugees were injured in the vicinity of the building. The death toll in Gaza has reached 25,490.

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Hezbollah claimed to have fired a missile at an Israeli military base.
