The woman reportedly died after being taken to hospital with head injuries.
The Israeli military said it was investigating the reports.
WAFA reported that the activist, who has Turkish roots, was participating in a weekly protest against the expansion of the Israeli settlement in the town of Beita when the Israeli military opened fire.
Israeli forces reportedly used live bullets, stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. It was not possible to independently verify this information.
A little later, the US stated that it was “urgently” seeking information about the woman’s death.
“We offer our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. We are urgently seeking more information about the circumstances of her death (…), said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
He identified the woman as Aysenur Ezgi Eygi and called her death “tragic,” but did not immediately assign responsibility.
Meanwhile, Turkey condemned the “assassination” of the pro-Palestinian US activist, who also held Turkish citizenship, saying she was killed by “occupier Israeli soldiers”.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it had learned “with great sadness” that “occupier Israeli soldiers killed our citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi in the city of Nablus”, adding that it condemned her “killing”.
Tensions have risen in the Israeli-occupied West Bank since the war in Gaza began.
