An Israeli woman has been sentenced to death for possession of cocaine in the United Arab Emirates.

A court in the United Arab Emirates has sentenced an Israeli woman to death for possession of 500 grams of cocaine. The woman, named by the Israeli media as 43-year-old Pita Kwan, has appealed against her sentence.
Israeli media have reported that Kwan, who previously owns a photo studio in Haifa, northern Israel, came to Dubai for work a year ago. A week later, he was arrested after police found cocaine in the apartment where he was staying. Kwan is said to have said that the drug was not his.
Authorities are advising Israelis to understand that law enforcement officials in Dubai are actively pursuing drug cases.
