Israeli Women Robbed and Assaulted with Machete in Kenya

In a shocking incident reported yesterday, two Israeli women were attacked and robbed at machete-point in Kenya. The victims had just returned to their hotel when the violent robbery occurred, leaving one of them with a severed finger. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has since confirmed the incident and stated that the Israeli consulate in Kenya is closely monitoring the situation.

The victims were immediately taken to a local medical center for treatment after the attack. The Foreign Ministry also stated that they have been in contact with the Israeli citizens and their family members in Israel, ensuring their well-being and providing assistance. Furthermore, the consulate helped the family members in Israel acquire quick visas to Kenya so they could be with their loved ones during this difficult time.

Israel and Kenya have had diplomatic relations since 1963, except for the period between 1973 and 1993 when the ties were severed following the Yom Kippur War. Presently, both countries have official embassies in each other’s capitals. The incident highlights the importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties, particularly in the face of such unfortunate events.

In July, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen visited Nairobi, Kenya, for a diplomatic trip. During his visit, he met with his Kenyan counterpart, Alfred Nganga Mutua, and other African leaders to discuss strengthening ties between Israel and Kenya, as well as with other countries on the African continent. Minister Cohen emphasized the need to expand the circle of peace with additional countries from Africa and hold further discussions on normalization efforts.

Minister Cohen also mentioned the increasing economic cooperation between Israel and Kenya in recent months. Cyber defense and expanding charter flights between the two countries during the tourist season were identified as key areas of cooperation. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of enhancing security measures and ensuring the safety of Israeli citizens traveling abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working closely with the Israeli citizens involved in this incident and their families. It is hoped that the Kenyan authorities will swiftly apprehend the culprits responsible for this violent crime and that justice will be served.
