The arrangement between both parties includes the renewal of their “joint readiness and commitment to work immediately to end the unilateral measures for a period of 3 to 6 months,” the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement delivered at the close of the meeting held in the city of Sharm el Sheikh, in the south of the Sinai peninsula.

In addition, Israel pledges to stop talking “about new settlement units for a period of 4 months and to stop issuing licenses for any settlement point for a period of 6 months,” the note noted.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Government of Israel and the Palestinian National Authority, as well as security officials and politicians from Egypt, Jordan and the United States, who discussed “ways and means to reduce tensions on the ground between Palestinians and Israelis, with the aim of paving the way for a peaceful settlement between Israelis and Palestinians.”

This meeting is a continuation of the agreement reached in the Jordanian city of Aqaba on February 26and renews the commitment of Israelis and Palestinians to de-escalate the tension that the region has been experiencing since the beginning of the year.
