ISRO rewrites history; India’s first private rocket Vikram S launched

New Delhi: India’s first private rocket Vikram S was launched. The rocket was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. The rocket was developed by Hyderabad-based startup Skyroot Aerospace. The mission, which was named ‘Mission Initiation’, was completed.

After reaching a height of 81.5 km from the earth’s surface, the rocket will hit the sea. Vikram is a small launch vehicle. It can carry three payloads. Vikram S launched three satellites including the 2.5 kg Fun-Sat developed by students from India, US, Singapore and Indonesia under the leadership of Space Kids India. Rocket development, design and missions are coordinated by ISRO.

The Hyderabad-based startup company and its operations herald a new era in the private space sector. That is why the mission has been named ‘Vamshyam’ which means ‘beginning’. With the successful launch, Skyroot Aerospace became India’s first private space company to launch a rocket into space.
