Issste invites to free vasectomy sessions

The Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste), through the ECOS strategy for Wellbeing reported that it offers free way to all the male populationwhether or not they are beneficiaries, the new working days no-scalpel vasectomywhich will be held on the days August 29th and 30th in medical units of the institution, with the aim of promoting universal access and quality of sexual and reproductive health.

He indicated that this procedure is a simple surgical technique, does not require hospitalization, does not affect sexual performance, and does not pose any harm to health.

The ISSSTE Medical Directorate reported that 842 patients have benefited from the program from January to June. It indicated that this practice is part of the Mexican Government’s strategy to ensure that all people, regardless of age, education, social level, sexual orientation, ethnicity or culture, can access preventive services related to sexual health.

This type of operation is 99.7 percent effective against unwanted pregnancies. However, it does not prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), human papillomavirus (HPV) and other diseases that endanger health. Therefore, the institute recommended that people who have unprotected sex opt for this definitive family planning method and continue to use a male or female condom.

The first intensive no-scalpel vasectomy session will be held in the Family Planning Modules from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in several medical units:

At the Álvaro Obregón Family Medicine Clinic (CMF), in the CMF Oriente; at the Tlaxcala General Hospital; and at the León Hospital clinic, located in Guanajuato.

Likewise, from September 10 to 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the surgeries will be held at the “1° de Octubre” Outpatient Surgery Center, located at 1669 Instituto Politécnico Nacional Avenue, Magdalena de las Salinas neighborhood, CP 07760, Gustavo A. Madero municipality, Mexico City.

It is essential that people interested in requesting a no-scalpel vasectomy make an appointment by phone and/or come in the days prior to the appointment for evaluation and programming. On the day of the procedure, they must arrive: bathed, wearing a face mask, having eaten a light breakfast, having previously shaved the scrotum or wearing a razor and Lycra or tight-fitting underwear.

To promote the sexual and reproductive health of beneficiaries and anyone interested in this contraceptive method, people were invited to attend primary care units, where trained medical teams provide detailed services and information according to the needs of each person.
