Can participate as an individual neutral player
The International Skating Union (ISU) has allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in the 2026 Milan/Coritina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics qualifiers as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN).
The ISU announced on the 20th (local time), “Athletes from Russia and Belarus have been allowed to participate in the 2025-2026 Winter Olympics qualifiers in short track, speed skating, and figure skating events as individual neutral athletes according to the conditions.”
The ISU followed the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to prepare a warning for athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Winter Olympics.
Accordingly, the ISU has ordered the Russian Skating Federation and the Belarusian Skating Federation to submit a list of athletes participating in the Olympic qualifiers for short track, speed skating, and figure skating by February 28, 2025.
Only one athlete was allocated to each individual event for each event. However, only one pair will compete in figure skating and ice dancing.
Athletes from Russia and Belarus must meet the ISU’s strict requirements.
Individual neutral athletes can secure only one Olympic ticket for each event at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Team competition is not permitted.
Additionally, athletes on the list must undergo special testing under the Olympic anti-doping program. The test must be conducted in regions excluding Russia and Belarus.
Individually neutral players are also prohibited from revealing their country of origin.
Only uniforms approved in advance by the ISU may be worn, and national flags, national colors, or military symbols may not be used in belongings.
In addition, one of the important conditions is whether or not the person supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
