“It almost looks like a voluntary stranding”: did the Var blue shark let itself die?

The female shark, which had been sailing in the waters of Hyères-les-Palmiers (Var) for several days, was found lifeless on the sand this Saturday morning. At dawn, a walker reported to the emergency services the presence of his body on the beach of Port-Hélène a few meters from where the shark – nicknamed “Sharkinette” by the beach supervisors – had been turning desperately since Wednesday July 27. “It almost looks like a voluntary stranding. As if, exhausted, she had allowed herself to be thrown onto solid ground, ”comments a rescuer. The body of the animal was taken away in the morning and sent for rendering.
