This was announced by LVŽS chairman Ramūnas Karbauskis on Friday, before the beginning of the council of “peasants” gathered in Babtui.

“We agreed to work together on behalf of Lithuania. Today, the Council of the Union of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens must approve the party’s election list, single-mandate candidates. And I am happy to say that Ignas Vēgėlė will be on that list”, Ramūnas Karbauskis, the leader of the “peasants”, told journalists.

“I decided to be the last one, 141. The goal is very simple – to show and tell everyone that it is not necessary to look for the mandate of a member of the Seimas, it is not necessary to look for a place on the list. We need to find a consensus and an agreement to act together for Lithuania”, said I. Vėgėlė in turn.

The lawyer emphasized that his only ambition when running for the Seimas is to stop the current, according to him, ugly state management.

“Together we agreed on the most important thing – that this list will be a joint list, which will include representatives of other parties, leaders, non-politicians, doctors, scientists, and lawyers,” emphasized I. Vēgėlė.

In case of success, he would apply for the position of Speaker of the Seimas

LVŽS has already announced that the leader of their list of candidates, Aurelijs Veryga, would, in case of success, become a contender for the leadership of the Government. At that time, I. Vēgēle, the chairman of “Valstėių” informed, would be projected the position of Speaker of the Seimas.

“We will confirm Ignas Vēgelės as a candidate for Speaker of the Seimas, if it happens that we form the ruling majority and have this position,” said R. Karbauskis.

He offered I. Vēgėle to keep a list

R. Karbauskis admitted that at first he offered the lawyer to become the leader of the LVŽS candidate list.

“My attempt to offer Igna to keep the list failed. But together we agreed otherwise,” he said.

I. Vēgėlė testified that he refused such an offer because he believes that a member of the political community should lead the party to the elections.

“Actually, respected Ramūnas Karbauskis suggested keeping a list. But we agreed together that it is most correct that the party list should be led by a party person”, said the lawyer.

The list will be supplemented by a group of public figures

I. Vēgėlė says that thanks to him, there will be at least one person who has not previously participated in politics in each of the top five of the joint list of “peasants”.

“The whole logic is that I am trying to expand this list with public figures, lawyers, scientists, doctors, professionals. (…) This is not a small group of people – at least one of them will be in each of the top five of the list, except for the first five, there will apparently be LVŽS politicians and that is reasonable”, I. Vēgėlė said on Friday.

For his part, R. Karbauskis assured that the list supplemented by these persons will be one of the strongest.

“Those public figures who will be on our list will be in the places that I suggested,” emphasized the leader of the “peasants”.

“The list will definitely be one of the strongest. (…) We understand our responsibility, because what was done these four years was a disappointing policy,” he said.

The LVŽS council, meeting on Friday, intends to approve the final lists of candidates for the Seimas.

As previously announced, in mid-June R. Karbauskis said that he offered I. Vēgele to jointly run for the Seimas. However, after several weeks of talks, the “peasants” decided that the list of their political power in the Seimas elections will be led by a member of the party, MEP Aurelijs Veryga.

For his part, I. Vēgėlė has repeatedly stated that he would see opportunities to assemble a coalition list of parties.

Seimas elections will be held on October 13 this year.
