“It doesn’t look like it’s consumed enough to be worth that price”

Got ten times the bills

Residents of the 2nd house on Vilainiai Melioratorių Street worriedly contacted the editorial office, saying that they have been receiving inexplicably high bills for the total electricity consumed for the last couple of months.

“Usually it used to be that you had to pay a few euros. Who is six, who is eight. We all paid. Until in April, huge bills of 40 euros each arrived. The neighbor received a bill of 60 euros,” said the resident of the house.

He added that not all apartments in the house have experienced this problem, but those that have are now shaking their heads wondering how the bills managed to get so high.

“We looked at the readings on the meter, but it doesn’t look like that electricity was consumed so much that we should pay that much.

We called the electricity suppliers and they said not to pay those big bills. And when we didn’t pay, the next month came a bill totaling 120 euros!”, said the man.

He added that people would pay if they knew there was a debt, but no matter how many times they called the electricity suppliers, no one even mentioned any debt. According to the man, the only suggestion was to wait until the origin of the large bills was determined and not pay the bills until then. But after doing that, obviously, the problem didn’t go away.

He also added that many people on social assistance, seniors and disabled people live in the house, for whom such amounts are indeed very high – few residents of that house could afford to pay the 120 euro tax for electricity in one go.

He declared with his eyes

AB “Ignitis”, which supplies electricity at Melioratoriu str. For the 2nd house, he said that neither the electricity meter is broken in the house, nor has any error occurred in the calculation of taxes.

“It is very disappointing, but this is a situation that happens when actual meter readings are not declared for a long time.

In March, during the meter replacement, the actual meter readings were written down and the discrepancy was proportionally distributed to the residents of the house.

Until then, the house administrator did not provide actual meter readings, and bills were provided based on average consumption.

Eight residents of the house contacted the company about this situation, and the reasons for the higher-than-usual bill were explained to them. Customers can contact and receive information not necessarily online, they can do this by calling on the phone. To clarify, the bill, which was higher than usual, reached the customers only in March, when the surcharge for the electricity actually consumed was distributed proportionally to the residents of the house”, Laura Beganskienė, Head of Public Relations Projects of AB Ignitis, explained the situation.

So it is obvious that those who have the habit of declaring the readings of electricity, water or gas meters after having invented them themselves, may suffer a lot in the long run because it seems that the debt will have to be repaid all at once.
