One of the luminaries in brain surgery – Finn Jussi Posti, denied the information that appeared that Michael Schumacher attended the wedding of his daughter Gina Maria at the end of last month. The 7-time Formula 1 world champion hit his head in late 2013.
In the accident, almost 11 years ago, the legend suffered serious brain injuries and underwent several operations. He was then in an induced coma for several months. And information about the condition of the majesty is almost absent.
Only from time to time his good friend Jean Todt, who was among the closest to Michael, reveals some small detail about the state of the greatness.
A few days ago, information appeared that Schumacher attended his daughter’s wedding in Mallorca. Those present claim that the world champion was separated from the other guests and only those closest to the family were able to see him.
According to Posti, who heads the department of neurosurgery and traumatic brain injury at Turku University Hospital, Schumacher’s condition has hardly improved over the years. And there’s no way he’s going outside, even for a short time.
“Based on the information available, I don’t think Schumacher leads a very active life. Everything points to it being bad. As bedridden, most people become so frail and stiff that it is no longer possible to get out of bed after so many years.
If a hospital was built in his house with everything medical around it, it looks like he was in hospital most of the time. Patients usually recover what they can within two years. In essence, these types of patients are at best very experimental models,” adds the top brain surgeon.
Posti says he’s read that the seven-time world champion communicates with his eyes.
“There are several consequences of brain damage. For example, the injury can make the patient not want to communicate with anyone other than his immediate family”, explains Dr. Posti.
