Crohn’s disease is a disease of the intestine that causes frequent pain and inflammation, It is chronic and autoimmune. It usually affects the ileum (the last part of the small intestine) although it generally affects the entire digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus.

What is Crohn’s disease?

It is usually a genetic disease, although the origin of this disease is not really known. It is believed that it may be associated with environmental factors as well. If Crohn’s disease is diagnosed and treated properly, the patient can lead a normal and complete life. However, it must be said that the symptoms are not the same for everyone with this disease.

A slightly annoying difference is that this disease can alternate periods of improvement and stability with others, in which outbreaks in which symptoms increase and become more frequent. Therefore, even if the patient sees improvement, one should not stop the treatment or the doctors advice because doing so may encourage the symptoms to reappear or worsen.

Symptoms of Crohn’s disease

Some of the symptoms of the disease are as follows: constipation or diarrhea, loss of appetite, painful bowel movement, weight loss, headache, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, fever, joint pain… But remember, Not all patients have the same symptoms. When some of these symptoms appear, we must go to the doctor to diagnose the disease or eliminate and cure whatever we have.

Diagnosis and treatment of Crohn’s disease

To treat the disease, drugs and corticosteroids are often prescribed. No specific food appears to affect the disease, but doctors often advise and discourage certain foods in your diet:

It is recommended:

-Eat whenever you can food cooked in steam, oven or grill.

– Always eat water and drink about 2 liters of water a day.

-Eat fruit, avoid acidic fruits. That is, we recommend pear, melon, apple, peach…

-Take plenty of protein.

-Avoid stress because it worsens the symptoms.

-Help improve digestion with vitamins that are antioxidants.

It is recommended to take omega-3 fatty acids because they help to repair the digestive mucosa and are natural antibiotics. These components are found in omega oil or seed of linen.

In patients with Crohn’s disease it is not recommended

Eat foods with sugars and stimulant substances. These products can irritate the intestines. Some of those foods that should be avoided are: cheese, dairy products with lactose, alcohol, caffeine, fried foods, red meat, tobacco, spicy foods, sugary drinks.. .

-Don’t eat dry foods because it can give stomach to eat them.

-Avoid fried or gratin foods as much as possible.
