New Delhi: More than 40 percent of consumers in the country’s tier 3 cities and small towns use digital payments daily. At the same time, 45 percent of people are using it once in two days. This claim has been made in a report. ‘Chase India’ has released this report on the status of digital payments in India. This report says that it shows the continuous use of digital payments by consumers in the country’s tier 3 to 6 cities. The report identifies the major challenges faced by businessmen and consumers at the ground level in adopting digital payment services. The report says that almost half of the businessmen who do not use digital payments in rural India are unaware of this service.

In contrast, 94% of consumers who do not use digital payments are familiar with it but do not use it. In fact, consumers do not use digital payments due to lack of internet connectivity, limited knowledge, distrust in online payments and service-related problems.

How much do businessmen get from sales through digital payments?

According to the report, about 41 percent of the traders get less than 25 percent of their sales through digital payments. While about 15 percent of the traders get more than 50 percent of their sales through digital payments. The report says, ‘This situation reflects the possibilities that still exist in terms of increasing the use of digital payments at the ground level.’

The report is based on a survey conducted among a total of 2,240 respondents. It covered 1,184 consumers and 1,056 businesses spread across 16 districts in eight states across different geographical regions of the country.
