Regularly, and it is obligatory to reforest the burnt places, the Acting Minister of the Environment and Waters Petar Dimitrov informs BTA.

Minister Dimitrov participated in a national conference “Adaptation to climate change in an urban environment – deployment of local capacity and national policies”, organized by the National Trust Ecofund.

On our territories – the parks and reserves that we manage, we take all kinds of security measures. “This is frivolous,” commented Minister Dimitrov on claims that appeared on social networks that the fires that have occurred in recent days in the country were aimed at freeing up space for the construction of photovoltaic plants. According to him, the construction of photovoltaic facilities requires a very long procedure, foreseen in “environmental and construction legislation”.

Without the relevant procedures, even an investment intention is not possible, he added, and expressed his firm opinion that it is not possible to build photovoltaic facilities in the territory of reserves and national parks.

Some of the fires were intentional, said Minister Dimitrov.

The fire in the Steneto reserve, where the forest is a century-old beech, cannot self-ignite, he added. On July 18, a fire broke out in the reserve. The most direct route by which firefighters could get there turned out to be attacked spikes, added Minister Dimitrov. It was necessary to use alternative routes, which fire engines could not pass, and the water had to be delivered with horses and jeeps, he said I can comment on who would be interested in a fire in the reserve, but obviously there is human influence, added Minister Dimitrov.

The fires are mainly caused by global drought and the high temperatures of the season. The burning of stubble should be controlled, there is also a limit on funding from the State Fund “Agriculture” when burning stubble, but this continues to happen, Minister Dimitrov added.
