It is still not clear what will happen if there is a run-off in the elections for regional mayors in Varna, which will coincide with the parliamentary vote, said today the chairman of RIC and OIC in the seaside town Velin Zhekov, quoted by BTA.
We remind you that in the “Odessos” and “Primorski” regions in Varna, elections for regional mayors will be held a week before the parliamentary vote, since the powers of the elected in the local vote last year, Tsvetnen Tsvetkov and Nikolay Zhelyazkov, were terminated ahead of schedule, and the possible run-off will coincide with the voting for people’s representatives.
Zhekov said that there is still no definite answer as to whether, in the event of a runoff, the composition of the sectional commissions in the two regions will be the same as for the parliamentary vote. According to him, there are a lot of questions that will still have to be answered, as many of the things are happening for the first time. “There was simply no such combination of elections, the ballots will be different, the bags in which the election papers are stored – also,” Zhekov said.
Due to the elections for regional mayors in Varna, two commissions will work – Municipal and Regional, explained Zhekov, who is the chairman of both. This is happening for the first time in Varna, and the composition of the RIC is different from that of the OIC. The regional commission has 17 members, while the municipal commission has 27.
The Regional Election Commission, whose composition was appointed yesterday by the Central Election Commission (CEC), met today for its first meeting.
The decision of the CEC is subject to appeal, we do not know if there is one, but even if there is, the composition of the commission will work, explained Velin Zhekov. According to him, at the first meeting, the RIC will be constituted and will resolve technical issues. From Monday, the commission will meet in the Palace of Culture and Sports.
