Their statement: The Supreme Court’s ruling that 27 per cent of the All India quota in medical degree courses should go to other backward classes is a victory for the AIADMK’s long-standing demand. A case has been filed in the Chennai High Court on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government and the AIADMK against the non-allocation of 27 per cent reservation in medical admissions to other backward classes under the All India quota.
Following this inquiry, the Chennai High Court on July 27, 2020 ordered the formation of a panel to decide on the issue. That is the foundation of today’s success. The committee was formed in its wake. Based on its recommendation, the Union Ministry of Health has directed that on July 29, the quota of 15 per cent for undergraduate medical degree, 50 per cent for postgraduate medical degree and 27 per cent for other backward classes to be filled under the All India quota will be adhered to.

Opposing the order, the apex court, which has been hearing the case of some, has issued an order that the order issued by the Central Government will go through. This is a victory for the DMK’s series of struggles. It is ridiculous to hail the DMK’s victory as its own, they said.
