Between past and present, in various time frames, we follow the path of the parents and the growth of the children: Claudio (Dario Aita) will become a dissatisfied actor, Caterina (Claudia Marsicano) will have serious food and balance problems, being obese, while the adopted Daniele (Livo Kone), the only one of the three to become a successful man, he will go on a frantic search for his natural father. We tried to give the public a story that was inclusive, in which all Italians can reflect – says Guanciale – The aspect that struck me most about Pietro is his ability to give himself completely to that project called family, and it’s nice to see someone ready to do anything for such a thing. The family – he adds – something that, for better or for worse, you never get rid of. My father very close to Pietro. He put me in a position to always follow my dreams.
Aurora Ruffino confesses that when the project was proposed to me, being a fan of “This is us”, I did not believe it and happiness immediately turned into panic. I thought: will you be able to play such an important role that comes from an equally important series? It all worked out when I stopped thinking about the American series. A couple of months before the start of filming – continues the actress – I had a kind of refusal of motherhood. I remember hugging Ribuoli and telling him that I never wanted to have children. But at the end of the shoot, the desire to become a mother made its way into me. Hence, love prevailed over pain. Her family has the ability to remain united despite everything, not to get lost and to accept everything that happens. The adaptation signed by the screenwriter Sandro Petraglia. Writing an adaptation – the director points out – is more difficult than writing an original screenplay. As we wandered, we realized that we could always trust the text. The most difficult step was choosing the cast and with them we tackled this crazy climb, we tuned in to the original project and immersed ourselves in it. The intent was to make it an Italian story without pretending to do something different or better.
