“It is time to trust our territories to accelerate the deployment of renewable energies”

by time news

Ifloods, megafires, droughts: last summer, our territories faced the dramatic consequences of climate change. Faced with these disruptions, faced with the emergency, our collective ambition is clear: to achieve carbon neutrality as quickly as possible.

This fight for the environment is also a fight for our independence. Because today, our country remains two-thirds dependent on fossil fuels in its final energy consumption. Gas, oil and fuel are still largely unavoidable for moving or heating us.

We must lead the fight for low-carbon energies against fossil fuels. For this, and to get out of our dependence, we need renewable energies. Of all renewable energies. However, it is clear that our country is lagging behind.

Behind the objectives that we had set ourselves in the previous multi-annual energy program for 2020. Also behind with respect to our European partners. Late, finally, in the face of the urgency of the climate and energy crises we are going through.

An unprecedented opportunity

In this context, the examination in the National Assembly of the government bill for the acceleration of renewable energies appears as an unprecedented opportunity to act, together: State, parliamentarians, local elected officials and industrial players.

It is time for the State to implement ambitious means to support the deployment of renewable energies in all our territories.

It is time that, as they have been asked, the prefects and the decentralized services of the State accelerate the examination of the projects.

It is time to take action so that France stops being one of the slowest countries to bring a project to fruition. How can we accept that it often takes us twice the time of our neighbors – five years to build a solar farm requiring a few months of work and ten years for an offshore wind farm?

Our neglected road and rail networks

It is time to exploit the adapted areas of our territories, by allowing, for example, the deployment of photovoltaics on our wastelands in the coastal zone or on our neglected road and rail networks, which are already artificialized and therefore constitute real opportunities.

It is time to regain control of our energy sovereignty, by building strong sectors in renewable energies, by controlling the entire value chain on French and European soil, and by creating new jobs in all our territories. .
