“It makes you want to fight”: LFI activists “boosted” by Mélenchon’s speech in the Drôme

by time news

In the aftermath of a third defeat in the presidential election, some wondered about his future. Sunday morning in Châteauneuf-sur-Isère (Drôme), at the end of the summer universities of his movement, Jean-Luc Mélenchon sent the message that he had not lost “the tone of the fight”. Under the buzz of a drone, the Insoumis leader delivered a speech calling for “general mobilization” at the start of the school year against the policy of the Head of State.

“Mr. Macron has chosen confrontation,” he told his fans from the first minutes. Anxious to set himself up as the first opponent of power, he mocks a head of state reduced to the role of bad pantomime. “What’s the point of smuggling little Mélenchon talking about ecological planning? What is he planning this one? Nothing at all, ”he attacks with cheers. “How dare he speak of abundance? He understands nothing about the ecological crisis, he continues. He’s some sort of 19th or 20th century ghost that appeared on his jet ski. What world does he live in? “Same mockery with regard to the announcements of Élisabeth Borne, formulated in our pages. “Mme Borne just woke up after summer…”

“The Nupes is not a single party”

Faced with crises, Mélenchon calls for resources. Like a tax on superprofits, to which the Prime Minister does not “close the door”. “It is time to tax the profiteers of crises”, he pleads, subscribing to the proposal of Olivier Faure, the boss of the PS, of a referendum of shared initiative to force the hand of the government. “If the parliamentary group accepts the idea, (…) all the rebels will collect the necessary 4 million votes”, he commits for this “first great arm wrestling”.

A way also to preserve the good cohabitation of the Nupes, formed within the framework of the legislative ones. The former socialist, a specialist in internal party wars, is keen to maintain a dynamic of “emulation” rather than “divisions” with his green, socialist and communist partners, some of whom opened his speech. “La Nupes is not a single party (…). It remains the strategic line to which everything we have done was dedicated. We have never been, we Insubordinates, adversaries of union, but adversaries of confusion. »

Then to beat the recall of the troops in the perspective of the social re-entry, which he hopes hot. With the unions, associations and Nupes, Mélenchon wants to organize a “beautiful march in the middle of October”, during the return to parliament, to defeat the social and ecological policy of the government.

The new popular front resurfaces

Upstream, he urges “the rebels, wherever they have campaigned, to come together to convene citizen, popular assemblies (…). Candidates must resume their gear and go back to battle to call general meetings. »

During the Amfis, the movement claims to have distributed no less than 2 million leaflets and 150,000 posters. Hoping to make the junction in the months to come between the trade union and political movements, Mélenchon revives, to conclude, one of its old proposals. “All together we will begin to prefigure this new popular front, this popular federation. »

In the crowd, the words took hold. “It boosts me, it makes me want to fight, not to let go”, confirms Jade, a 16-year-old high school student from Montélimar. “It sums it up, it mobilizes, enthuses Nicolas, 58, a veteran of the industry. It gives the fishing and a good little kick in the ass to restart in September! »
