It was by mutual agreement that someone else came to compose the song among the classmates, Vidyaji is still a favorite: Lal Jose

Director Lal Jose wishes music composer Vidyasagar on his 60th birthday. He said that Vidyasagar is a close friend beyond films. Vidyasagar composed the tunes for most of the films directed by Lal Jose. On his birthday, Lal Jose wishes Vidyasagar to be able to enthrall the hearts of his fans with his beautiful songs for many more years. Laljos to Manorama Online about Vidyasagar:

‘The relationship between Vidyasagar and I started in 1987. That day, when I went with my friend Dinesh to sing a track from the Tamil movie Poomanam, I saw a guy conducting the music from the console room. When I asked Dinesh who it was, he said it was Vidyasagar. He has worked as an associate with music directors in many Malayalam films. This film is his first independent music composition. Dinesh sang the song “Ennanpe”. Couldn’t meet Vidyasagar that day. Later, he was introduced to Kamal sir while working on Azhakia Ravana. When I did my first film Maravathur Kanav, he composed the music. Then he composed music for 13 of the 27 films I did. That connection extends from Maravathur Kanav to Solomon’s bees.

Why didn’t Vidyaji come to his classmates?

The film Chantupot was produced by Siddique Lalile Lal. At first it was produced by someone else. Later it was taken over by Lal Creations. Lal’s younger brother Alex Paul is there when the discussion takes place at their home. When I saw Alex sitting aside without any discussion, I told him that I was giving him a movie. Then Lal said, but tell me that I can give the next picture to Alex right now. That’s how Alex Paul makes music for the house where no father sleeps. The songs in that movie were good. But it was not a film where the song was important. Later, when his classmates came, he thought that Alex should do the same. I said to Vidyasagar that this is going out of an understanding and we can meet after that. And so it happened.

A friend named Vidyasagar

No complaint has been received about any film done by Vidyasagar. Vidyaji has given good songs that the movie deserves. The songs in my early films were born from the Vidyasagar-Girish Puthanchery partnership. Those songs were the brand ambassadors of those films. After that, Vidyasagar and Vayalar Saratchandra Varma did Neelatama, Leopards, Lamb and Chantupoti. They too became hits. Girish Puthanchery’s untimely demise happened in between. We have worked together in several films. Even if we don’t do the film, we have a friendship that will not go away. My birthday is January 11. His 2nd March is birth number 2 for both of them. That is why we always say that we are similar in nature. My heartiest birthday wishes to Vidyasagar. May God bless Malayalam cinema, South Indian language films and Indian cinema for many more years of beautiful songs.
