“It will become more difficult to fly, but the demand for flights is still huge.”

The participation of foreign delegations and missions at the MAKS air show this year was minimal due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Brazilian Embraer did not present its aircraft, Boeing did not bring new aircraft – they were shown only at the corporation’s stand in the form of models. But the European concern Airbus brought two aircraft – a wide-body A350-1000 and A220, as well as a multi-purpose helicopter H145. During the show, the concern entered into an agreement for the supply of six A220s with the Russian airline Azimut, which had previously operated only Sukhoi Superjet. The portfolio of previously signed contracts with Russian airlines is 40 aircraft, says van Versh. According to his forecast, the demand for new aircraft in Russia “will be enough for all suppliers – both Russian and foreign.”

– What do you think was the right thing to hold the MAKS airshow during the pandemic?

– It’s great that they decided to hold the air show. I think this is a restart of large exhibitions. There have been no air shows for 18 months. Therefore, I personally advocated the active presence of Airbus at this show.
